Hello, my name is Phil Batterson. I created ad Profectus because I am passionate about sharing my knowledge to help hard charging individuals achieve their dreams, while living efficient, healthy, optimized lives, through focusing on growth.

I know what it’s like to have massive dreams and goals but feel like every day is a rat race to get the ESSENTIALS done. To feel like you are pulled in so many directions, that you never have time to truly devote yourself fully to your passion. To be stretched so thin that you are not sure if the next task is going to be the one that disables you from continuing.

A lot of us who are highly motivated, whether you are in academia or pursuing your first industry job, are able to absorb A LOT of stress and continue to be productive. Eventually (unless you are some genetic anomaly) this stress catches up to us, resulting in BURN-OUT. With thoughts of “What’s the point”, “Why am I even doing this”, “Is this really worth it?”, clouding your ability to get ANYTHING done. Not only does this effect people mentally but it can result in physical issues as well. I have known graduate students who have been so stressed they lose their hair, become dependent on alcohol or other drugs, gain massive amounts of weight, or get so little sleep and nutrition that they have the testosterone of an 80-year old man, at 24! That one was me!

I am here to confirm, of course the toil is worth it! There is a reason why you are choosing to climb the ranks in your company, or get a doctoral degree, there is reward through the struggle. However, I believe that the struggle should not leave you a mental and physical mess, unable to continue because you burned the candle at both ends for too long. The struggle should leave you with a sense of accomplishment, standing on the summit searching for the next peak to climb. In order to do this, you need to be the hero of your journey and take back control.

Admittedly, as a second year PhD student, I continue to struggle to balance everything I have to do: teaching, grading, research, classes, relationships, etc. but I have identified key aspects of my life that I can control (i.e. sleep, exercise, nutrition) as well as guiding principles that allow me to get more done, recharge and continue to push forward! And now I want to help you start to optimize your life to get the same results. The first step is simple. Subscribe to the ad Profectus email list and start to take control, so you can accomplish your dreams!
